This session will delve into the intersection of communications and government affairs, understanding that the best messenger is often times not staff or board members from your organization. This training will review tactics to engage with local government elected officials and agencies, as well as how to develop and empower a cadre of ambassadors to communicate your organization’s mission, goals and successes to government and other key groups outside of your existing network. Attendees will walk away with a strategy to focus on their local government and how to leverage them for greater mission output.
As the Founding Partner of Stratiscope and the Founder of City Impact Lab, John Bwarie is in the business of engaging government officials and community leaders to make an impact. With a deep knowledge of the inner workings of local government and as a communications officer for the US Geological Survey based at Caltech, John has worked across the Los Angeles and the nation in various roles to communicate and activate individuals, businesses, and communities. From message development to media relations to government affairs, John has experience across a wide range of channels to achieve impact goals through communication. He has created events with over 5 million participants like the great ShakeOut and has spoken at technical conferences on Capitol Hill on the topic of communicating to those in power. John’s success in forging connections between people, community organizations, and government agencies and his knack for solving problems has made him sought after in communications and community work for over a decade.
